Victim Offender Reconciliation Program (VORP)
- Program Description
- Referral Sources
- Client Feedback
The Victim Offender Reconciliation Program consists of a mediation process which involves providing a victim of youth crime and the offender an opportunity to meet face to face in a safe environment. Participants will have an opportunity to explore issues in relation to the crime and understand the impact it has had on all involved. VORP focuses on youth accountability, understanding the impact of crime, demonstrating empathy for the victim and repairing harm.
Target Participants: Young people with offending behaviour aged 12-18; victims of any age.
Goals:
Offenders and their victims have a better understanding of the harm that occurs when a crime is committed through a face to face mediation in a safe and supportive environment. This program endeavours to resolve conflict and restore relationships.
Victims feel safer and have an opportunity to voice their concerns. The young person at risk of offending has opportunities and resources to make personal change.

In spite of the resistance and fear that frequently exists for both parties in the beginning, both victim and offender often express surprise and satisfaction with the results of the mediation process
